The DLC Foundation Donates $ 2,500.00 to Open Hearts Camp.

Hello Everyone, 
Some great news from the David Louis Cunha Foundation ! 
This past Saturday we visited the Edward Madden Open Hearts Camp in Great Barrington, Massachusetts, in the Berkshires. This camp hosts children who have undergone open heart surgeries...many of who have received heart replacements.

During the entire Summer, there are children who come from RI, MA, CT, ME, and a few from outside of New England. We went on the high recommendation of David's Cardiologist, Dr. Patricia Rompf.

Now as you may know, David's Foundation is EXTREMELY careful on who the foundation donates to...we truly do our due diligence. We choose to help smaller organizations and families who are in TRUE need of assistance. With what we learned on our own about this camp along with Dr. Rompf's recommendation...we set off thinking that David's Foundation would sponsor eight children for a two week stay at the camp.

Well, we were so impressed with the wonderful and caring staff, the happiness of the children, and the beautiful location for these children to experience...we decided to sponsor ten children...and will do so again next year...if not more.

We found these children to be truly content and excited to be there...and there was no hiding their camaraderie with each other. Though these children have many other friends at home, at this camp they share a common bond among each other...a bond that most others cannot begin to understand the dept of. No feelings of awkwardness, no feelings of uneasiness or embarrassment...just feelings of acceptance and and friendship.

After a tour of the camp, lunch with the kids, discussion with the director & staff AND the children, when we left to go back home, we were so happy that David's Foundation connected with these folks.

We believe that there are exciting possibles for the the David Louis Cunha Foundation and the Open Hearts Camp in the future. As always, thank you so very much for your continued wonderful support. YOU make everything possible.

More Scholarships Given!

Congratulations to Alyssa Ricci and Nicholas Squillante – 2017 awardees of the David Louis Cunha Foundation Scholarships.  These scholarships are awarded to Smithfield High School Graduating Seniors who have excelled in community service and embody a generous heart, as did David.  Alyssa and Nicholas both receive $1,000.00 from David Louis Cunha Foundation – thank you all again for your wonderful support… all we accomplish is always in the loving memory and honor of our David.

We’re Sending Kids to Open Heart Camp!

Great news from the David Louis Foundation!  David’s Foundation will be sponsoring 8 children to attend the Open Hearts Camp in Great Barrington, MA for two weeks this summer!!  We are looking to sponsor five children from Rhode Island and three children from Nearby Massachusetts.  The Open Hearts Camp is a non-profit summer retreat which hosts children who have undergone the rigors of open heart surgery or have received a heart transplant.  Please check out their website at OpenHeartsCamp.org and you will see what a wonderful place this is.  All of this is made possible through your generosity, support and caring.  I have said this many times and I will continue to do so… YOU are the FOUNDATION… You make it all happen.  Thank you all so very much and look for more great news coming!

Donations/Grants In 2016

The David Louis Cunha Foundation, a 501 (c)(3) organization, was established on January 13, 2015, upon the passing of David Cunha.  The Foundation’s mission is to provide financial support to families with children living with life threatening medical conditions.  The Foundation also awards scholarships to Smithfield High School graduating Seniors who excel in community service and embody a generous heart, as did David.

  • March 2016 – Donation to A Wish Come True / Warwick, RI. Bella, a four year old girl with leukemia and her family granted a wish to go to Disney World ($4,000.00).
  • May 2016 – Donation to Boston Children’s Pace Maker Camp. Five children from Rhode Island with pace makers granted a 3 day / 2 night stay at the camp ($2,240.00).
  • May 2016 – Scholarships to Smithfield High School. Two $1,000.00 scholarships awarded to two students who have excelled in community service ($2,000.00).

We are also pleased to announce that this past Christmas Season, the David Louis Cunha Foundation donated over $ 2,000.00 to the following local agencies to specifically help children…children who do not experience the joys of Christmas that most do…children with no homes or away from their homes for good reason…children who were in great need of some Christmas kindness.

    Congratulations Seniors!

    On Monday, May 30th, the David Louis Cunha Foundation presented graduating Smithfield High School Seniors Angela Gattinella and Paige Howard each with a check for $ 1,000.00 - Angela & Paige are the very first David Louis Cunha Foundation Scholarship recipients. These annual scholarships will be awarded to graduating Seniors who exemplify David's compassion and commitment to helping others through community service, good citizenship, and respect. Congratulations Angela & Paige. And a special "Thank You" to our good friends Joyce Perry, who joined us at the presentation, and to Nick Patrie, who presented the scholarship awards. No doubt David is smiling and sending all of us his love.

    Boston Children’s Hospital’s Pacemaker Camp Fund

    Last Friday, May 13th, the David Louis Cunha Foundation presented Boston Children’s Hospital’s Pacemaker Camp Fund a check for $ 2,240.00 This donation will enable five Rhode Island children with pacemakers to attend the camp over Labor Day weekend in September. Years ago, David attended the camp and had a terrific time. In David’s memory and honor, his Foundation continues to make a positive impact on children’s lives. Thank you all so very much for your continued support…YOU are the Foundation. A special “thank you” to Nick Patrie, Mike Rozzero, and Cheryl Cunha who had to carry that heavy check ! 🙂 More good things to come !!

    Bella to meet Mickey!

    Today, February 11, 2016, the David Louis Cunha Foundation had the opportunity to grant a wish to a young child named Bella. Her wish was to go to Walt Disney World in Florida this May. This is just the beginning of the great things that the Foundation is doing to help those in need. Thanks to your donations, we were able to put a smile on this child's face (as well as our own). We wish Bella a fabulous time in Disney, and may all her wishes come true.
