David Louis Cunha Foundation Scholarships.

Congratulations to Emma Fortier and Lily Niquette – 2024 recipients of David Louis Cunha Foundation Scholarships. These scholarships are awarded to Smithfield High School graduating seniors who have excelled in community service and embody the generous heart and character that defined David. Winners are chosen by a panel of some of David’s former teachers from the high school and middle school. Emma & Lily each received $1,000.00 to put towards their first year of college. Congratulations once again.

And we would like to take this opportunity to recognize and offer our heartfelt thanks to our dear friend Luigia Solda, Librarian & Media Specialist at Smithfield High School. Luigia was a teacher & good friend of David’s throughout his four years at Smithfield High, and was so very instrumental in the creation of the David Louis Cunha Foundation Scholarship. Each year Luigia sees the scholarship process through from the very beginning to the very end. A lot of time & work ! Thank you, Luigia….for your caring, kindness, and friendship. And as always, THANK YOU ALL for your wonderful support.

In this past year of 2023, the David Louis Cunha Foundation has been privileged to provide over $ 14,300.00  in donations to Rhode Island and nearby Massachusetts children in need.  We thank you all for your kindness and wonderful support. A recap coming soon !

David Louis Cunha Foundation Sends Charlotte To Disney.

On May 8th the David Louis Cunha Foundation, through A Wish Come True in Coventry RI, had the true pleasure of donating $ 5,000.00 to sponsor a young girl’s wish for her and her Mom & Dad to visit Disney World in Florida. Charlotte is five years old and has congenital heart disease. Charlotte has gone through several open heart surgeries, but is doing very well presently. She is truly a joy to be with. Charlotte and her family will stay at Give Kids The World Village in Florida, the same place David stayed over twenty four years ago. Give Kids The World Village is a non-profit resort that provides a weeklong vacation to children with critical illnesses and their families. Charlotte will meet all of the Disney characters….included her favorite princesses.

Thanks to your kindness and support, Charlotte will experience this once in a lifetime dream. We are sure that she and her Mom & Dad will always treasure their Disney memories. Thank you all so very much for making Charlotte’s wish possible !! All that David’s Foundation is able to accomplish is THANKS TO YOU !!

A Milestone for the David Louis Cunha Foundation.

We are proud and yet most humbled to announce a milestone for the David Louis Cunha Foundation.  This past June, David’s Foundation exceeded $ 101,000.00 in donations to Rhode Island and nearby Massachusetts children in need.  We are so very thankful.  We could have never foreseen this back in those dark early days of January, 2015.  When David left us, we knew immediately we had to honor and celebrate his life in some lasting way.  But we never imagined this.  And the only way we have been able and privileged to accomplish what we have is because of YOU.  YOU are the Foundation.  YOU have made it possible for us to assist these children and their families.  Even through these last two years when we’ve had to scale back our fundraising efforts due to the Covid situation, you have been there for us.   Without you, the David Louis Cunha Foundation would not exist.

So, as David’s Foundation has done time and time again, we heartfully and most sincerely THANK YOU for your kindness, your friendship, and your support on many levels.  And please, always remember, if there is a child and family that you believe David’s Foundation can assist, please do not hesitate to reach out to us.  We depend upon you to help us.  May God Bless you all with His Love & Care. Mikey Goes To Disney !

On March 1st the David Louis Cunha Foundation, through A Wish Come True in Warwick, RI, had the true pleasure of donating $ 5,000.00 to sponsor a young boy’s wish for him and his family to visit Disney World in Florida. Mikey is three years old and has been battling Severe Combined Immunodeficiency (SCID) since birth. He underwent a bone marrow transplant at 5 months of age and as "conditioning" for the transplant received the chemotherapy treatments. Mikey is presently doing well and is expected to continue to do so. He and his family will stay at Give Kids The World Village in Florida, the same place David stayed over twenty three years ago. Give Kids The World Village is a non-profit resort that provides a weeklong vacation to children with critical illnesses and their families. Mikey will be able to go on all the rides for his age J and meet all of the Disney characters.

Thanks to your kindness and support, Mikey will experience this once in a lifetime dream. We are sure that he and his family will always treasure their Disney memories.
