David Louis Cunha Foundation and A Wish Come True Grants Two Wishes !!

On November 19th the David Louis Cunha Foundation had the true pleasure of presenting A Wish Come True of Coventry, RI a donation of $11,000.00 to sponsor two Wishes for two amazing children.

Wish One was for Adilyn, a 6 year old young lady who wished for her and her Mom & Dad to visit Disney World in Florida. At 20 weeks old, Adi was diagnosed with a Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia…which was compressing on her heart and lungs…preventing them from developing correctly. She spent 55 days in the Cardiac Vascular Intensive Care Unit at Boston Children’s and has undergone numerous surgeries. But she is a strong little girl and her perseverance continues to shine.

Wish Two was for Daine, a 14 year old young man who wished for him, his Mom, brother and little sister to return to his home in Alaska, which he had to leave 12 years ago for health reasons. Daine was diagnosed with Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI), a genetic disorder that causes bones to break very easily, often from little or no apparent trauma. It is also known as “brittle bone” disease. Daine has had 27 broken bones and also has dealt with hearing loss, as well as heart and lung issues. Daine, like Adi, is a true fighter. We offer them both our prayers and best wishes.

David’s Foundation was privileged to sponsor these Wishes. What makes the donation and these Wishes extra special is that it was all made possible through the kindness of a friend of David’s from high school. Riley White (pictured), and Keller Williams Leading Edge Real Estate, sponsored a golf tournament in September…with all proceeds going to David’s Foundation. $11,000.00 Was raised…and donated to help make these Wishes come true. A heartfelt Thank You to Riley and his wonderful crew.

As always, thank YOU all so very much for your wonderful support and caring. We wish you a Blessed Christmas…and please stay tuned for news about David’s Foundation’s Christmas Giving. Merry Christmas !

Edward Madden Open Hearts Camp

On July 22nd, the David Louis Cunha Foundation had the pleasure of donating $ 2,500.00 to the Edward Madden Open Hearts Camp located in Great Barrington, Massachusetts. As you may remember, this camp hosts children who have undergone all types of open heart surgeries. During the entire Summer, the camp welcomes kids from Rhode Island, Massachusetts, & Connecticut. The donation will be used to cover the refurb and beautification of the camp’s art bunk house….a place where the kids can express themselves through art and experience endless hours of enjoyment. And yes, when the camp was a fully functioning farm many years ago…the bunkhouse was a chicken coop !

To visit this camp and spend time with these extraordinary children, is an experience that one does not forget. The children are truly excited to be there…and there is no hiding their camaraderie with each other. Though these children have other friends at home, at this camp they share a common bond among each other…a bond that most of us cannot understand the depth of. There are no feelings of awkwardness, no feelings of uneasiness or embarrassment…just feelings of acceptance and friendship. It is truly a special place.

We heartfully THANK YOU all for making this donation possible through your wonderful support. And please stay tuned for more great news from David’s Foundation.

These scholarships are awarded to Smithfield High School graduating seniors who have excelled in community service and embody the generous heart and character that defined David. Winners are chosen by a panel of some of David’s former teachers from the high school and middle school. Emma & Lily each received $1,000.00 to put towards their first year of college. Congratulations once again.

And we would like to take this opportunity to recognize and offer our heartfelt thanks to our dear friend Luigia Solda, Librarian & Media Specialist at Smithfield High School.
